Eastern State Penitentiary
Eastern State Penitentiary is a historic prison that is now open to the public. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in Philadelphia!
Jackson Sanatorium
Regarded as one of the easiest explores around, naturally we were spotted on the way in and ejected by the police. The officer was very nice to us and called the owner to see if they were willing to let us go. This is one time where having a massive amount of camera equipment with…
Polaroid Trips 5 & 6
Polaroid trips 5 and 6 were focused on the power plant. It was a small building, but lots of fun to explore and a few of my favorite pictures of the place came from here.
Augusta Tissue
This tissue paper mill closed down under somewhat shady circumstances after changing owners several times. The mill was even held by the federal government for a time while the courts worked out what to do with some of the contested assets. Polaroid…
Jane Cooper Elementary School
Jane Cooper Elementary, to me, was a sort of the ultimate representation of what Detroit had become by the time I was visiting there. The entire neighborhood around the school had been razed leaving only empty streets with the abandoned school standing in the middle.
Metropolitan Building
Built in 1924, the Metropolitan was an ornate downtown Detroit office building.
Eastern Market FIRE – March 2009
One thing about visiting Detroit during my run of going there regularly was that there was usually some type of fire while I was there. The Detroit Fire Department had an absolutely impossible job trying to keep the thousands of abandoned buildings from burning. On Devil’s Night (the night before Halloween) it became a tradition…
