Despite having been to San Francisco many times, I had never been to Alcatraz. When my wife and I started our pan-California road trip in the summer of 2014 I figured it was finally time. She may have preferred that I visited prior to her being with me – not because she didn’t enjoy it, but because I was deep in the “photo coma” the entire time I was there. It was also extremely busy so it took a ton of waiting to bring the “desolate” into my photos.

There are so many shows and accounts of Alcataz’s history, it feels silly to try to provide yet another one here so I will let the pictures speak for themselves.
