For several years I had been trying to get a shot of Long Point Lighthouse at sunset. We tended to take the boat out too early in the day to be in the right place at the right time, though. We had been out two days in a row and were thoroughly roasted by the sun. My wife decided she had had enough and didn’t want to go out for a third day in a row. It was the last day of our vacation and in a moment of bravado I decided I could stand one more day of sun.
It was fortunate that I did. It was an excellent day on the boat but, more importantly, I was in the right place and the right time to get the right shot of Long Point Light. Many times the skies over the outer cape are too clear, or the clouds are too low to the horizon to get a good shot, but through pure luck I got a good day and a shot I was happy with.
