As the inevitable demolition of Northampton State Hospital drew closer, rumors began to circulate about increased security. I remember people saying on the forums that there was a Massachusetts State Police Officer who sat on the campus and turned people looking to explore the buildings away. Not to be deterred, I decided I would wake up at 3 AM and drive 2 hours to explore the hospital pre-dawn.
It was amazing to see the hospital with the morning light coming from new directions, and hear the birds chirping in the trees from the roof of the administrative section. I never did see any sign of increased security, though, which was fine by me.
