McGraw Station – 6th Precinct

During my first trip to Detroit one of our first stops was the abandoned 6th precinct police station, otherwise known as McGraw Station. Built in 1930, the station was active until budget cuts lead to its closure in 2005. McGraw Station was a figure in Detroit’s history of civil unrest. It was breached during the riots in 1943 and was attacked by snipers during the riots in 1967.

My shots from my first trip to Detroit are on film. I was concerned about getting my gear stolen or damaged during the inevitable partying with my friends, so I brought two Canon A1 cameras with me and used a very cheap Manfrotto portable tripod.
