Northampton State Hospital – February 11, 2006

Urban Exploration was definitely beginning to take over my free time by the time of my fourth visit to Northampton State Hospital. I was heading out to abandoned places essentially every chance I could get. Northampton was a common destination because it was a Kirkbride, it was very photogenic, and because Northampton is a great town to grab a meal in after a full day photographing.

I feel like my photography was beginning to improve as well. The numerous shallow-depth-of-field shots in this set herald the purchase of the “Thrifty Fifty” Canon 50mm 1.8.

On this trip I managed to find my way to the violent ward in the end of the wing of the Kirkbride farthest from the North Infirmary. I had seen pictures online and had been looking for it, but always ran out of time or couldn’t figure out where it was.
