Awesome shot Dave, but what a gay mascot. Imagine trying to tell people that you play for the Butterflies?
Awesome indeed, this one rules!
i have an ok shot of the symbol, but i've no where near your ability to capture time. excellent. oh, and no one played for the butterflies, as there was no teams.
I went to school here, too. These pictures are beautiful and heartbreaking. It was a terrible place, and I have been back since to witness it sinking into the earth with very complex and mixed emotions. I am lucky to have survived it all, but know many who did not fare so well. Your photographs capture it all perfectly. (ps. hi kevin! xoxo)
Yeah, I believe the mascot was actually The Monarchs, not the butterflies. And yes there were teams, (baseball, soccer, etc), at least in my day. The Monarch was supposed to be a symbol of emotional growth. Apparently, we arrived at the school as caterpillars, and we graduated as butterflies. Monarch sounds better, but whatever, it's still GAY. Imagine the kids who ran away with their letter jackets on with the butterfly logo on the back. Truckers must have had a field day!!!!
(hi bix!) i think the sports teams ended sometime in the early 90s, sometime before kevin and i arrived. in 92 we had a softball team that someone resurrected, but it sort of failed after too many of the participants ended up farmed and unable to participate, or who were put on "no male" and were therefore not allowed to interact directly with male teammates. absurd. and so embarrassing when playing against other "normal" schools. by 93 the only time i ever went to the gym was to clean it. hope you're well, my friend!
Butterflies in a Jar. So breathless.
