Every idle building in Dallas is razor wired and welded shut as a result of this kind of thing. Even occupied structures were at risk. People destroyed a whole neighborhood's telephone system for a week because copper thieves went into the manhole and helped themselves. A guy was shot on the roof of a furniture store...their A/C units had been stolen so many times the guy had his son camping up there with a rifle. Churches, houses...you see a lot of their A/C equipment on the ground now encapsulated by steel cages. People will steal the catalytic converter off your car if you leave it parked on the street at night...I think that's still going on.

I guess some people don't feel they have a choice. Some in Detroit, especially, may not have another way to make money.

More evidence of the rampant scrapping that is happening in Detroit...scrappers will pull copper pipes and wires right out of the wall.

UPDATE: My main computer has died and I currently have no access to my photography files. So...I will be unable to post until I can either get the machine running again or transfer my RAID array to another machine. Sorry for the inconvenience!!!
