After 2 hours of bushwhacking to approach this radome from the back side, during which I picked up the first tick I have ever gotten, I discovered that it was, in fact, still in active use for tracking international flights. I had read that this might be the case online, but wasn't totally sure. The dome was also surrounded by the most unbelievable impenetrable thicket I have ever seen...not that I wanted to get anywhere near the dome once I heard it's motors whirring away...for both legal and safety reasons.

After turning around and starting to head back I experienced something new: claustrophobia while outside. The woods were so thick and twisted that it actually began to get quite uncomfortable. Finally breaking out of the thicket and onto some comparatively easy to walk deer trails was a welcome relief.
